ABOUT US

A Modern Home In the Heart of Bratislava.

Welcome to Schöndorf Hostel – a state of the art, fully autonomous, self check-in Hostel right in the heart of Bratislava’s Old Town. Stripped from all tedious reception based procedures, we decided to build Schöndorf Hostel around an intelligent system, which allows you to be in charge of all formalities, comfortably and at your own convenience.
All you need to do is check in and receive your PIN code – your personal access code through all gates, your room, even your AC and light controls. And in case of any questions, check the convenient FAQs below, or use our 24/7 customer support chat option – to which you gained access after completion of the check-in form.
Check-in starts at 15:00
Check-out is due at 10:00 – please keep this in mind, as our room service enters at 10am and starts cleaning the whole property, preparing it for arrival of new guests.
We would like to take this opportunity and thank you for choosing Schöndorf Hostel. We wish you a wonderful stay.

F.A.Q.

Autonomity of Schöndorf Hostel, does this mean I'm totally on my own? There is no staff?

We designed our Hostel exactly the way we would like to be accommodated. To be self in charge of all formalities, with no unnecessary reception-based hassle.
However in no way are you left alone or with lacking service. Our staff is at your disposal 24/7.
Everyday at 10:00 our room service takes over the property and resets it to its sparkling clean state.
In case of any questions, easier than going to a reception, you can simply use our 24/7 chat option, where we are gladly at your service with any infos you’d require.

What happens with my access code after check-out time?

Why that’s a good question, every day at check-out time at 10:00, all departing guests codes reset, which means they no longer have access to their room. If you missed the check-out time, please contact us, we’ll gladly help you out.

Can I leave my luggage at the Hostel after check-out?

in case you need to store your luggage before check- in or after check-out, you can find a Baggage Storage in the passage next to bike racks. The PIN code is the same as the one assigned to your room. Please note that you will need to pick up your stuff before 18:00 as the passage gets closed after that time.

I'm travelling by car, any advise how to park conveniently?

Sure thing, in case you are travelling by car and looking for a convenient parking place – you will find it only 100m away at Radlinskeho Street, just pick a place which is not marked with an X(these are reserved). Parking on Radlinskeho is paid only from 8:00 till 18:00 from Monday till Friday – 1.8€ for 90 minutes or 8€ for the whole day, you can pay at conveniently located parkomats.

Can I rent a lock at the Hostel?

Don’t need to, you will find PIN code operated lockers at your disposal in all of the dormitories. Just find yourself an empty one, put it in lock position, choose yourself a 4-digit code you like, confirm it once more, “zzzip”, the locker is locked. To unlock, try to remember the 4 digit code from earlier you liked so much. Still don’t remember? Use the 24/7 chat or call us, we’ll gladly help you out.

Is the access PIN code the same as the booking.com PIN code?

Nope, no one knows what the booking.com PIN code is for, but it isn’t the the building/room access PIN code. You received your building/room access PIN code via SMS and email upon completing the pre-check-in.

Standing in front my room and my code isn't working. Of just can't seem to make the lock open.

If you completed the pre-check-in, used the building/room access PIN code you received after doing so, great job, you’re almost there!
1) To avoid any possible errors, press C to reset the keyboard.
2) Type in your access PIN code, and press the button down on the right, the one with a lock icon.
3) Please let the lock unlock the door, it takes a second for the lock to make a full turn. If your hasty and force it mid-motion, you’ll make it stuck.  If this happens, please contact our 24/7 chat option or give us a call, we’re gladly at your service.

How do I control the AC?

The almighty PIN code is the answer. In each room next to the door, you will find a black info panel which contains QR code. Just scan the QR code with your mobile phone’s camera – this will give you access to the Room Control Interface.

HISTORY

Schöndorf building.

Schöndorf is a piece of history which is personally very close to us. It used to be a suburb of Bratislava, stretching over to today´s Kollárovo Square. Before the first Slovak Republic was established, Obchodná Street was called Schöndorf Street. It was the main street of this suburb, full of restaurants and shops. At the street number 48 – this very building and a colonial shop was built by our great-grandfather Václav Srb in 1924 . It was called Colonialle Srb. He chose a famous cubism architect for the job – Jindrich Merganc – who designed the building with its iconic triangular facade and support beams, which are visible throughout the whole complex.

At Colonialle Srb people could buy goods ranging from rice, fruits, vegetables, to cocoa, coffee, liquors, etc. The shop had also a coffee roaster which was located just at the entrance of our present Schöndorf Bio Cafe. Later in 1929 our grandmother was born in this very building and this very apartment – which is today known as the Schöndorf Hostel. Our grandmother is the one to whom we are grateful for our passion for the traditions and history of our city.
During the communist era, the whole building and all of our family’s property was taken by the state and occupied for 40 years. During this time it all deteriorated heavily. After 40 years a minor part of the property was restituted and returned back to our family. Another 30 years later – we decided to right these wrongs and piece by piece bought the building back. Our grandmother is 90 years old today and spends her days happily, knowing the house her parents built and she was born in, belongs her family again.
Guided by our grandmother’s memories and historic pictures, we reconstructed Obchodná No. 48 and brought back life and good energy, for which this house was originally always well known and loved.
We hope you will have a wonderful time in the Schöndorf Building,
Pagáč brothers – owners
